How to Send Flowers to a Melbourne Hospital?

We are a Melbourne Florist and are very experienced in flower delivery to all Melbourne Hospitals.  If you are needing to send flowers to a Melbourne Hospital, it is a relatively straightforward process. We also offer same-day delivery to all hospitals in Melbourne if you order before the cut-off time of 1pm. The main thing you need to ensure that the flowers will be delivered successfully is to get all the correct patient and hospital information when placing your order.  This includes Hospital name, Patient’s full name, Ward or department, Hospital address, your card message and delivery date.

Can you send Flowers to a Melbourne Hospital?

Yes, flowers can normally be sent to all Melbourne Hospitals, but it would be wise to check with the Hospital before ordering your flowers as it can vary between hospitals and individual wards. In our experience, delivering flowers is particularly an issue when sending to an Intensive Care Unit or ICU where they will normally not allow flower delivery to that ward. This is probably because the patient is unable to care for the flowers or likely to be moved to a different ward. Once you get the all-clear that flowers can be delivered to the hospital, you should check out our range of fresh bouquets and arrangements on our website. The main occasions are typically Get-Well flowers or Newborn baby flowers

What information Do you Need to send flowers to a Hospital?

Patient’s Full Name

This is the important detail that you need to get right because the Hospital staff will not accept the flowers if the Patient’s name is not in their system. This is also the case for women patients who may have used their maiden or married name. Therefore, you will need to ensure that you have used the same surname that the female patient have used when entering the hospital.

Hospital Name

Knowing exactly the name of the hospital is important as this will make it possible for successful delivery. This also helps when there are multiple hospitals in a very close area. For example, in Melbourne there is Sunshine Hospital and Joan Kirner Hospital next to each other, but the latter is a Maternity Hospital, and the former is a general hospital.

Hospital Address

This is also important again where there are multiple buildings or hospitals in the same area. For example, St Vincent Private Hospital is on 59 Victoria Parade, but St Vincent Hospital is on 41 Victoria Parade. They are next door to each other, but it helps to confirm the correct location when you have both the name and address.

Ward Number

This is very helpful but not as critical as the staff at the reception should be able to advise the driver or courier if you don’t have this information.

Patient’s Room Number

Like the Ward number as it is not as critical but if known would be helpful to include.

Your Personal Message

This is probably the most important section as it makes the flowers more meaningful and to let the patient know that they in are in your thoughts and who it is from.

What happens when you order Hospital Flower Delivery?

  • Choose your flowers

The first step is to think about what flowers you would like to send to your friend or loved one is hospital. We have a range of fresh bouquets, arrangements and hampers which you can select from.

    • Enter the Recipient’s details

Once you have chosen the flowers, the next step is to proceed to the checkout on our website where you enter all the delivery details. The first step is to enter the Recipient’s name, address and contact number. The recipient’s contact number is just in case there is an issue with delivery for the courier like a locked gate or incorrect address.

    • Enter the hospital name and address

On the checkout page, this is where you enter the hospital name, hospital address and ward and bed number if you have them. Having all the details will speed up the delivery as the driver doesn’t have to go to reception which can be a little busy sometimes.

    • Add your card message

The last thing you will need to do when placing your order is to enter your card message. We do have a 400-character limit so the message cannot be super long as it does need to fit on our complimentary card provided.

    • Our Florist prepares the arrangement

Once the order is placed, it will come through on our system, and our Florist will start to prepare the flowers in a bouquet or an arrangement.

    • The Flowers are prepared for delivery

Once the flowers have been made, they are then wet packed and carefully wrapped into a bouquet. The gift card with the personal message is also attached to the bouquet. Any extra gifts or add-ons are then also wrapped along with the bouquet. The order is then ticked off in our system to ensure that everything is included with the flowers such as chocolates, wine or any special instructions.

    • Our delivery team takes them to the Hospital

Once the flowers are ready, the driver is booked for the delivery. Once the driver arrives, the first thing is to ensure that the flowers are packed well for transit so that it arrives in the same condition. The driver is provided a map for the destination and then start to make their way to the Hospital. If the sender has all the details, the driver will head directly to the Ward or Room. If not, the driver will go directly to the reception where the flowers will be accepted or given direction to the Ward location. Once the flowers are delivered, driver will update the status of the delivery, and an email notification will be sent to the sender.

What Flowers are best to send to a Hospital?

You can send any flowers to a friend or loved one in hospital, but we always recommend that it should be in a vase or

. This is because the hospital may not have vases or are also unlikely to take proper care of them. A vase arrangement or boxed arrangement which already has a water source will therefore require less maintenance so they could last longer. In terms of style, most people like to send bright or cheerful flowers like Sunflowers as a way of lifting their spirits.

What happens if the Patient has already left the Hospital?

There will be times where the patient is discharged early and the flowers will need to be redirected. The hospital will typically not allow the flowers to be kept at the hospital if the patient has been discharged so the driver may first call the recipient number provided to let them know about the flowers and to obtain a new address. If there is no answer from the recipient, the driver will call the store for further instruction. Our team will then get in contact with the sender and first advise them that the patient has been discharged and will need a new address to redeliver the flowers.  If the sender has provided a new address, there will normally be a re-delivery fee depending on the distance from the hospital. If there is no response from either sender or recipient, the flowers will then have to be returned to the store and kept in our cool room until we get in contact with the sender as we wait for further instruction.
